Sneak Peek at 'CROWNS'
Art exhibit opening attendees get sneak peek of CROWNS: A Gospel Musical Stage Play

The production of CROWNS: A Gospel Musical Stage Play opens at the Simpsonville Arts Center on Oct. 6, but art exhibit attendees on Sept. 26 enjoyed a sneak peek of the show. Clark Nesbitt and his community theater No Dreams Deferred performed a couple of numbers in the Arts Center auditorium during the opening of the "Reflections: Art to Move & Inspire" art exhibition, which featured work by painters Nick Burns aka Ninja Picasso and Shayla McClellon. Four actors sang and dance while Mr. Nesbitt talked about the selections from the perspective of the story. CROWNS is an exploration of Black history and identity as seen through the eyes of a young Black woman who has come down South to stay with her aunt after her brother is killed in Brooklyn, N.Y. Characters use hats of exquisite variety to tell tales about the etiquette of hats and their historical and contemporary social functioning. CROWNS productions are Oct. 6, Oct. 7, Oct. 8, Oct. 13, Oct. 14 and Oct. 15. Tickets can be purchased on eventbrite.com.
